Used Stair Lifts - A Great Alternative
A brand new stair lift machine is quite an investment, often costing in the neighborhood of $2500 or more.
Unfortunately, this high cost puts the purchase out of range for many people. However, there are still other
options. For instance, you may find that purchasing a used stair lift is a great alternative.
There is a huge market for used stair lifts - so it does not matter if you are looking to buy a used lift or
sell one that you have been using, you should be able to find what you need.
Most used stair lifts come from private individuals that have upgraded to a more expensive model. This often
happens when someone moves into a new house that requires a personally designed stair lift. In this type of
situation, the individual might sell the lift that they had been using in their old home. Other times, used chair
lifts can enter the market after someone has healed after an injury or other temporary condition that required the
use of a lift.
There are many companies that will purchase a used stair lift with the intent of reconditioning it to sell once
again. Sometimes, they will only purchase a used lift that they manufactured. For instance, Ameriglide is a company
that offers a buyback option in which they will purchase your used Ameriglide stair lift from you. But, they will
not purchase a lift made by any company other than themselves.
If you work with a reputable company, safety of used lifts should not be an issue. Most companies will
completely disassemble a used machine, ensuring that all parts work properly. During this time they will also
extensively clean each component.
They also test and/or replace the rechargeable batteries. This is why you should be wary of purchasing a used
lift directly from another person with whom you are not familiar. You really have no way of knowing if the unit is
safe or not.
You may find that a used lift has a few cosmetic defects on it. Sometimes the vinyl on the seat cover may be
torn or have small marks, and there may be scuffs or dents on the outside of the track. For the most part, these
cosmetic problems should not be much of an issue. As long as the motor, battery, drive train, and cables are in
good working order, you should not have any problems.
If you would like to purchase a used lift, your best bet would be to contact your favorite manufacturer. Think
of it this way: if you were going to buy a new stair lift, decide which manufacturer you would like to work with -
then, contact that company and ask if they sell used machines. There is a good chance that they may sell used lifts
directly to their customers. But, if they do not then they might be able to point you towards a dealer who
does.
Do not let cost be an issue that affects your mobility. If staircases are causing you distress, then you need to
take action. A used stair lift might be exactly what you need.
